Barbara Baquero
I immigrated to the US ten years ago to continue my education. I completed a bachelor's degree in Psychology in my native country, Venezuela. For the last seven years I have been working at the Center for Behavioral and Community Health Studies (BACH) at San Diego State University (SDSU). There, I started my career in public health research, completed my MPH, and continued tow to work in community based research among Latinos.
Academically, I am in my third year in the doctoral program in Health Behavior Sciences. This training has enhanced my skills and knowledge in health behavior; but most of all, it has solidified my passion for science and public health practice. I am ready to take the next step in my career by completing my doctoral degree. This SDPRC Fellowship will allow me to further build my capacity for study in population-based research, and social-cultural determinants of health. My work and research represents the intersection of my field experience, my training, and my desire to build a set of essential skills and knowledge that serve me in academia, community based research, and work with the federal government.
