Lisa Hoffman, MA

Lisa Hoffman, M.A., is Managing Director of the San Diego Prevention Research Center. As such she plays a leadership role in the Infrastructure Core, and also helps oversee Communication and Dissemination and, Education and Training Core activities. In her role as Co-Community Liaison on the Collaboration and Partnerships Core, she develops and supports the SDPRC's dynamic Community Engagement Committee. She represents the center on local coalitions, takes an active role in the PRC's National Community Committee as Western region co-director and PPO committee participant and serves as Program Coordinator for the Healthy Borders project in collaboration with the community agency, "Casa Familiar".

Ms. Hoffman earned an M.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, specializing in Gender and Global issues and qualitative and participatory research methods. Completing several years of doctoral level studies, her research experience included investigations of the immigration experiences of Mexican and Filipino immigrants in Central and Northern California, social inequality and empowerment of indigenous women in a rural Mexican community, and the socio-cultural determinants of women's health in Malawi. Prior to joining the SDPRC, Ms. Hoffman worked for a California farm worker aid organization, the communication department of an international health development organization in Washington, DC, and the social sciences/social work division of an electronic information services company.

Ms. Hoffman gained her deep appreciation for the volunteer work of the Familias Sanas y Activas Promotoras through her own volunteer work with San Diego Sierra Club's Inner City Outings as well as with a women's cooperative of pepenadoras who reside in Tijuana's municipal garbage dump. Her current physical activity interests include Russian Kettlebells, yoga, pilates, hiking and Latin dance.
