Barbara Lugo

Barbara Lugo has worked for the Chula Vista Community Collaborative (CCVC) in San Diego's Southbay region for ten years. She is presently CVCC's Site Coordinator for the San Diego Prevention Research Center's Familias Sanas y Activas Research Core study. As a Site Coordinator, she contributes to the development of the study's intervention to ensure that it reflects community needs and is responsible for recruiting, training, and supporting a group of physical activity promotores in the City of Chula Vista. Barbara serves as CCVC's Promotora Coordinator as well, overseeing 35 promotores on a variety of grant-funded projects, including disaster preparedness and work with the census.

Barbara began her association with CCVC as an ESL student and volunteer at the New Directions Family Resource Center. She was later hired as a Parent Volunteer Coordinator, connecting parents to community services and resources and coordinating parent workshops. Barbara helped establish a successful grassroots, organizing group of community residents called the Neighborhood Council Initiative (NCI) and, in 2002, she was hired as NCI's Coordinator. In 2003, she won the Hispanic Leadership Award from Radio Hispana, a local, Spanish-language radio station, for her work in the community.

Barbara was born and raised in Mexico and is the proud mother of 2 sons.
