Suzanna M. Martinez is a doctoral candidate in the joint doctoral program at University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. In 2004, she received a master’s degree in Nutrition Education from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry & Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego.

Currently, Suzanna’s host PRC is the San Diego Prevention Research Center. The center is funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to promote physical activity among Latinos. In addition, she is funded by the National Cancer Institute to conduct a supplement study in an intervention designed to promote physical activity among churchgoing Latinas. Past research includes developing nutrition education research in the Mixtec communities of Oaxaca and San Quentin, Mexico.

Suzanna’s research interests include public health interventions to address health disparities in the Latino community. Her research focuses on culturally appropriate methods for physical activity promotion in Latinos. She is also interested in multivariate statistics. More specifically, her dissertation examines individual, social, and environmental correlates of physical activity among Latinos living in San Diego County.
