Elizabeth Mejia

   
Elizabeth (Liz) Mejia, M.S. currently acts as the Intervention Coordinator and Physical Activity Specialist for the Research Core project Familias Sanas Y Activas. She is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the intervention by making sure the promotores follow all project protocols. Ms. Mejia also provides technical assistance to the promotores on how to develop and implement their physical activity programs.

She has an MS in Kinesiology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Born and raised in San Diego, Ms. Mejia is bilingual and bicultural. She is a certified personal trainer and health/fitness specialist and has three years of experience as a manager in the fitness industry. In addition she has over two years of experience in community health research. She also served as Project Coordinator on the NCI-funded Promoting Physical Activity in Churchgoing Latinas (Caminando Con Fe; Arredondo, PI), promoting physical activity amongst church going Latinas.

Research interests include Obesity Prevention and Promotion of Physical Activity in Latino populations. Other interests include bridging the gap between the availability of nationally recognized certifications for Spanish speaking fitness professionals.
