Sara Solaimani
Sara Solaimani began working with the San Diego Prevention Research Center in March
2008, and oversees and coordinates all matters related to Familias Sanas y Activas
promotora and trainer activities the community. Some of these include the physical
activity groups, bi-monthly promotora meetings and capacity-building opportunities.
Sara also acts as the Media Liaison, making connections with local press and
coordinating public health columns written by SDSU GSPH students.
Sara is the first of her Iranian family to be born in the United States. Fluently trilingual
in Farsi, English and Spanish, Sara’s interests include advocacy for underrepresented
individuals and community organization projects in the US-Mexico border region. An
avid salsera, Sara’s research interests include promoting physical activity through Latin
dance, as well as community involvement in advocacy efforts.
Having graduated from UCSD in 2003 with a Bachelor’s in International Relations, and a
minor in Studio Art, Sara is now in the Thesis writing stage of her MA at SDSU.
Specifically, she is looking at border art as a mechanism for better understanding the
transborder condition. She plans to defend before her committee at the Chicana/o
Studies Graduate Department in December 2009.
