Improving & Translating the Evidence: Increasing physical activity among adults in racially/ethnically diverse communities in the U.S. (SIP 13)
The following PRCs have been selected for minigrants that aim to promote physical activity in their Latino community:
- Salsita Community Mapping Project, San Diego PRC
This project will work with a Latino community located in the Southwest. The project focuses on an informational campaign to increase awareness of the resources available for physical activity. The project will work with a local artist and a geographic information systems expert to identify accessible physical activity resources (e.g., parks, trails, etc.) that are close to a family's house, work, and/or school. Visually appealing and locally relevant maps will be created for local residents. It is hoped that these maps will help community residents to locate safe, affordable and accessible physical activity resources.

- Built Environment Project, University of Texas Science Center at Houston
This project is located in the Southwestern region of the United States and is focused on environmental and policy change as a way to increase physical activity among Hispanic and African American residents. The project will start by assessing the role that parks play in influencing physical activity. This information will then be used to develop advocacy initiatives for park development in the area.
